Leader in Training

(L.I.T)

(Youth 12 to 14)

This program is designed to bridge the gap for tweens who are too old for summer camp, too young to work, yet still require structure in their summer schedule.  This program is offered in four two week sessions. Three day (M, W, Th) or Five day programs available.

Includes

• time working hand-on with our Tunz-a-Fun campers, which may include assisting in the gym, helping with arts and crafts or assisting around the pool.

• a structured swim lesson.

• instruction in "how to teach" with emphasis on gymnastics spotting and class management.

• ongoing education in child development issues, communications skills, leadership, first aid training etc.

• ongoing feedback and evaluations.

Counsellor in Training

(Junior Counsellor)

(Youth 14 to 15 ½)

This program is for older youth who are looking for an opportunity to gain experience working with children, yet are too young to get a summer job.  This FREE program has a limited number of positions available. Junior Counsellor schedule will be set upon consultation with program coordinator.

• the majority of their time will be spent working hands on with our Tunz-a-Fun or Adventure Camp program under the close supervision and direction of the camp directors and senior counsellors.

• ongoing education in child development issues, communications skills, leadership, first aid training etc.

• ongoing feedback and evaluation.

The goal of this program is to provide participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare them for future employment in any field.  A limited number of future day camp positions may be made available participants.  However, keep in mind that participation in the Junior Counsellor program is not a guarantee for job placement inside or outside of Action Kids Athletics. Many of our camp counselors stay with us for years and job openings tend to be limited.

Junior Counsellor positions are limited and filled based on the discretion of the Program Coordinator.
