Swim Lessons

What is your Child:Instructor ratio in swim classes?

Level One and Two ~ 4:1, Level Three/Four ~ 8:1, Parent and Tot ~ 10:1

What level should my child be in?

Below is  our "rule of thumb"

Parent and Tot:  For children under 3 1/2, for older children who a) can not support self in a bubble or b) emotionally will not be able to be in the pool without a parent.

Level 1:  For children who will go into the pool without parental support but still require a flotation device.

Level 2:  If your child can swim five feet in the water (any stroke, even dog paddle).

Level 3/4:  For children who are ready to learn the stokes (front crawl, back crawl, etc.)

Can I watch my child?

Yes, we have a climate controlled viewing area upstairs in the gym.  Parents are not allowed within the pool enclosure.

If I miss a class can I book a make up class?

Because we maintain such a low child to instructor ratio, we do not offer make up classes for swim.

What is your weather policy?

Swim lessons will be run if it is raining.  Generally, we do not cancel classes until we hear thunder or see lightening.  WE WILL CALL YOU IF WE CANCEL YOU CHILD'S SWIM CLASS.  We regret that we cannot tell you in the morning if your child's afternoon class will be cancelled.

Day Camp

What is your camp ratio?

We maintain a ratio similar to our regular program.  Depending on what your child is doing, the staff supervision will vary.  We have a 10:1 camper to counselor ratio; however when they are in the gym or in the pool, the ratio is much lower.  The gym is 8:1 and the pool, depending on swim level is 4:1 or 8:1.

What should my child wear/bring?

A bathing suit, towel and running shoes are required.  Children also need a snack, lots of water and full day campers need a lunch and afternoon snack.   Younger children may want a change of clothes   Please limit the amount of soda and junk food that is sent into camp. Please put your child's full name on EVERYTHING.

Do 1/2 day campers bring their lunch?

The half day camp program is over at noon, so they do not need a lunch. They do need to bring a snack.

Can my two children be in the same group all day?

We group the children into four groups, (those going into) kindergarten and younger, 1st and 2nd grade, 3rd and 4th grade, 5th grade and older.   We are fairly strict with these age groupings.  The groupings may change slightly when we have final summer numbers.  We do not group the children by gender so girls and boys may be in the same group.

What about sunscreen and bug repellant?

We recommend that you send your child to camp with sunscreen and bug repellant already applied.  There are many 8 hour waterproof sunscreen brands that are on the market, that require only one application per day.  We do use bug repellant on the children throughout the day if it is warranted.

What happens if my child does not want to go swimming?

On the registration form there is a check box if you would prefer that your child not take the daily swim lesson.  Unless we hear otherwise from the parent, we do expect the child to participate in the daily swim lesson.  If you chose for your child to forgo the swim lesson, your child will need to stay with the group and wait by the side of the pool area.  His group leaders will be involved with the students taking lessons.

The schedule says three day camp is M, W & F and two day camp is T & TH.  I need Monday/Thursday, can I do that?

No

I have an old doctors physical form, do I need a new one?

The doctors portion of the medical must be dated within two years of your child's attendance at camp.

Adventure Camp

What is Adventure Camp

Adventure camp is a parent and me "day camp" that is closely modeled on our regular day camp for children two and three years old.

What are the times?

9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Do I have to go swimming with my child?

Yes, it is a parent and me swim time; however swimming is the last thing on the schedule, so you may choose to leave before swim time.

Do I bring a snack?

A small snack is provided, however, if your child has particular "favorites" or allergies you may want to pack a small snack.

Gymnastics Classes

My child is going into first grade next year what level should (s)he be in?

Children entering kindergarten should go into BSAP or Tumble Girls.  Children entering first grade should be in Fliptastics.

All others in Jumpstart would be based on their current age.  Current Fliptastics children should be placed according to their skill level.

.

What should my children wear?

Shorts and a t shirt or a leotard.

If I miss a class can I do a make up class?

Due to the limited amount of class offerings we regret that we cannot offer make up classes during the summer.
