Parent and Me

Seahorse – Level: Parent and Me

Ages 6 to 24 months

Splash, Play, Bond

Our Seahorse classes incorporate games and songs that teach early swim skills in a playful environment.  This is a parent participation class.  Your instructor will introduce new skills and show you how to guide your child through each activity. This class is not designed to teach children to survive alone in the water.

Prerequisites

  • None

  • Ages 6 to 24 months

Class Focus

  • To introduce water safety skills
  • To begin back floats with full support
  • To learn to submerge
  • To encourage parent/child bonding

Sea Turtle – Level: Parent and Me

Ages 18 months to 3 ½ years
30 minute class

Splash, Learn, Grow

Sea Turtle classes incorporate waterplay, splashing, kicking and floating in the water, activities that enhance fun and establish the baseline skills necessary for learning to swim. This is a parent participation class.  Your instructor will lead the group in skill building activities as well as taking one-on-one turns with each child.

We also offer an independent Sea Lions class for 2 year olds who prefer to learn in the water without parent participation. If you think your child would benefit from this type of class, please check out the description below.

Prerequisites

  • None

  • Ages 18 months to 3 1/2 years

Class Focus

  • To wait for permission before entering the pool
  • To climb out of the pool
  • To begin floating on back
  • To introduce horizontal swimming position
  • To learn submersion and breath control
  • To begin roll-over breathing

Sea Lion

Age 2 year olds

I want to do it all by myself!

This is a class for toddlers who are comfortable swimming without parents in the water but still have “2-year-old listening ears”.  Children will practice taking turns and following simple directions.  Sea Lion classes incorporate a predictable routine and engaging play to help kids learn basic water and safety skills.  A portion of each class takes place on the pool deck to build connection and reinforce pool safety instruction.

Prerequisites

  • This class is for 2 year olds.

  • Comfortable in the water

  • Able to enter the pool area with instructor (parents remain in the viewing area)

  • Ready to learn in an "all by myself" class environment.

Class Focus

  • To increase comfort in the water through games and water activities
  • To introduce the safety float/back float
  • To acquire general confidence in the water with the goal of full submersion.
  • Learn to safely return to the pool edge and climb out.
  • 20-25 minutes will be spent in the pool.  The remainder of the class will be spent on-deck, learning water safety.

Guppy – Level 1

3 to 5 years

I’m ready to go!

Our Guppy class is designed for children aged 3-5 to develop water readiness and comfort in the water without a parent. Waterplay and games introduce basic skills such as submersion, breath-holding, bobbing, blowing bubbles, and floating with help. This level also introduces simple safety skills to help children stay safe around water. Water confidence is the goal of our Guppy class!

Prerequisites

  • None

  • Minimum age: 3 years

  • This is an independent class. Parents watch from outside the pool enclosure.

Class Focus

  • To increase comfort in the water through games and water activities
  • To introduce the safety float/back float
  • Acquire general confidence in the water with the goal of full submersion.
  • Jump in the water with instructor assistance.

Clownfish – Level 2

3 to 5 years

Ready…Set…..Swim!

Our Clownfish class is designed for 3–5 year olds who are comfortable in the water and able to easily transition away from a parent.  This is the class for swimmers who’ve decided that they are ready to learn to swim and willing to put their faces in the water.  By practicing beginner skills such as submerging, breath control, back floating, kicking on front and back, as well as alternating arm action, these students will begin to move comfortably through the water. Swimming short distances without support is the ultimate goal of this class.

Prerequisites

  • comfortable in the water

  • Able to enter the pool area with instructor (parents remain in the viewing area)

  • Safety float with assistance

  • Willing to put face in the water

  • If your child is extremely nervous or hesitant to separate from parent/caregiver, please choose a Guppy Class

Class Focus

  • To improve safety float on back with support
  • To maintain horizontal position and become more streamlined when swimming
  • To fully submerge under water
  • To practice kicking on front and back
  • To learn alternating arms

Jellyfish – Level 3

3 to 5 yearrs

Ready to swim all by myself

Jellyfish classes are for swimmers who have mastered the basics with limited floatation assistance.  They are comfortable swimming with face in the water, and unafraid to jump in with assistance. These swimmers are ready to work on the skills and endurance required to swim without support.

Prerequisites

  • Comfortable fully submerging in the water

  • Consistently swims flat and keeps body parallel to the surface.

  • Able to jump in and submerge with assistance

  • This level includes time in the deep end (with an instructor). • Children must be comfortable in water that is over their heads while using flotation tools.

Class Focus

  • To increase comfort in the water and total submersion.
  • To learn to back float independently.
  • To jump into water independently.
  • To Swim Independently 50 feet.

Minnow – Level 2

(6 years and older)
30 minute class

I can do this!

Minnow classes are designed for beginners ages 6 and older who are unable to swim and require flotation devices when unassisted.

We start at the beginning with the basics submerging, breath control, back floating, kicking on front and back, as well as alternating arm action, Minnow is the best class for nervous swimmer, those unable to put their face in the water or those unable to jump in with assistance.  The pace of this class is slower than the Marlins class.

Prerequisites

  • none

  • This is the best choice for nervous swimmers over 6 years old

Class Focus

  • Increase comfort in the water through games and water activities.
  • Acquire confidence to put face in the water and completely submerge.
  • Introduce the safely float/back float.
  • Jump into the pool with instructor assistance.

Marlin – Level 3

6 years and older
30 minute class
Ratio 4:1

I’m ready to (learn to) swim!

Marlin classes are designed for swimmers age 6 and older who are comfortable in the water but are unable to swim and require flotation devices when unable to touch the bottom.
This class is for children who have mastered the basics ((comfortable swimming with face in the water, are unafraid to jump in with assistance) and are ready to work on the skills and endurance required to swim without assistance.

Prerequisites

  • Comfortable in the water

  • Will completely submerge consistently

  • Consistently swims flat and keeps body parallel to the surface.

  • Able to jump in and submerge with assistance

  • This level includes time in the deep end with an instructor. Children must be comfortable in water that is over their heads while using flotation tools.

Class Focus

  • To become comfortable with total submersion
  • To back float independently and begin learning elementary backstroke
  • To jump in the water independently
  • To swim beginning freestyle independently 50 ft (one length of our pool)

Stingray – Level 4

4 years and older
30 minute class
Ratio 4:1

I’m ready to take off and swim!

Stingray classes are for swimmers who are able to swim independently at least 50 ft. and are ready to build their swimming abilities. A focus on stroke technique helps swimmers become more efficient in the water.

Prerequisites

  • Able to swim one length of our pool with face in the water and in horizontal body position.

  • Able to float on back independently for 3-5 seconds

  • Comfortable swimming under water. Can do five bobs.

Class Focus

  • To gain comfort in/under water at varying depths
  • To improve freestyle technique including rotary breathing
  • To learn basic backstroke
  • To build endurance in the water

Coach and Me

ages 6 and older

Dolphin – Level 5

6 years and older Ratio 6:1

I am ready for more of a challenge!

For more advanced swimmers who can swim 100 ft. unassisted with beginning freestyle or back stroke.

This class is for swimmers who want to increase their endurance and competitive stroke technique.

Prerequisites

  • Able to swim 50ft in beginning freestyle and elementary backstroke (1 length of our pool)

  • Rotary Breathing to one side

  • Comfortable in the deep end

  • Swims with a horizontal body and beginning Freestyle Arms

Class Focus

  • To improve on freestyle and back stroke technique.
  • To introduce breaststroke and butterfly
  • To build endurance and strength in the water
  • To develop water safety skills including treading water

Shark – Level: 6

6 years and older
30 minute class
Ratio 8:1

I am a swimmer and it shows!

Shark classes are for our most advanced swimmers.

They are perfect for those who already have some knowledge of the completive strokes and want to improve on their technique and endurance

Prerequisites

  • Ability to swim 200 ft in beginning freestyle and 100 ft backstroke. (100 ft = two lengths of our pool)

  • Proficient in freestyle with rotary breathing.

  • Can swim with proper Backstroke arms, familiar with Breaststroke

  • Kneeling dive

Class Focus

  • Competitive skills such as diving and flip turns are introduced.
  • To improve all stroke techniques.
  • To increase endurance and strength in the water.
  • Develop water safety skills including treading water and surface dives.
